bullet  General Notes:

from "The Pierces and Their Posterity", p.
William became Serlo de Percy (this name may be referring to William's brother, Serlo) and refounded the Abbey of Whitley, which the Danes had destroyed earlier, and his brother (Serlo?) became the Abbot. William was married to Emma, the daughter of a distinguished Hampshire baron - Hugh de Port. William and Emma had several sons, the eldest being Alan who succeeded his father.

from "The Percy Family in England", p. 27:
William crossed the English Channel in the army of William the Conqueror in 1066 and took part in the Battle of Hastings, fought in September of that year, near Southampton, England. The Directory of Ancestral Heads of New England Families says one man bearing the name of Percy was captain of William I's fleet, but proof that it was either William or Serlo is lacking. For his part in the conquest of England, William received large land grants in Hampshire, Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire. By the time of the Domesday Survey, the family held 86 lordships in the North Riding. William refounded the Abbey of Whitby which the Danes had destroyed. Siblings: - Serlo. Also was a part of William I's army at Hastings. He became the abbot of Whitby Abbey after his brother William refounded it. ======================================================

In 1070 he was engaged on works connected with the rebuilding of York Castle after its destruction by the Danes and in 1072 he took part in the Conquerors expedition to Scotland.

In 1096 he set out on the first crusade and died and was buried at Mount Joy near Jerusalem. Following Williams dying wishes Sirralph Eversly a Knight carried his heart back to England and it was buried at Whitby Abbey.
